Droit du seigneur ('lord's right'), also known as jus primae noctis ('right of the first night'), was a supposed legal right in medieval Europe, allowing feudal lords to rape subordinate women, in particular, on their wedding nights.
Historians David M. Walker and Hector McKechnie wrote that the "right" might have existed in medieval Europe, but other historians have concluded that it is a myth, and that all references to it are from later periods. Over centuries, it became commonly portrayed in European literature as a practice that had occurred in earlier times or other places. More on Droit du seigneur
In 1868 Simonetti exhibited two works at the Brera Academy, Interno di cucina in Trastevere and Portone in via dei Carbonari . In the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Naples in 1877 he presented a pair of paintings, "The herald" and "The tambourine", which were purchased by Prince Umberto, who a few months later would become King of Italy with the name of Umberto I .

In Naples, during one of his many trips with Mariano Fortuny, he met and became a friend of Filippo Palizzi who later in 1877 invited him to exhibit his works in the city of Campania.
He was executor of his will for the sale of the objects collected by Marià Fortuny during his travels, and therefore began to deal more and more with antiques, with particular attention to ancient art.
